Looking back, our very first Knot Party brought a series of great experiences our way. It all began when my dear friend and Knot Ambassador, Pallavi, reached out with a creative idea. Pallavi, an artist who works with watercolor paintings and poetry, wanted to organize a macramé workshop for her daughter’s birthday. And that’s how the idea of a fun knotting experience for kids’ birthdays—a Knot Party—came to life.
I initially told her that I could teach the kids how to knot a key tag. But Pallavi, who loves our curtain ties—which can also be used as charms—asked if I could teach that instead. When I checked with her about how much time I would have, she said the session could be an hour and a quarter. I told her I could definitely teach them how to make a curtain tie, but I would need at least two hours to ensure everyone had enough time to enjoy the process without feeling rushed. She agreed, and we finalized the plan for a two-hour session. I was thrilled—this was the first time I’d ever hosted a birthday party workshop!
The preparations were exciting. I packed all the materials needed for the session, recording a reel of me prepping for the big day. When the day arrived, I headed to Pallavi’s home, where she had beautifully set up the space for the celebration. Trisha, the birthday girl, was there chatting with a friend, eagerly awaiting the start of the Knot Party. We decided to begin once at least three more of her friends arrived so we could make the most of our time.
To welcome everyone, I brought along a small easel with a handwritten sign that read: "Welcome to Trisha’s Knot Party." As the kids trickled in, we began with introductions. It was heartwarming to discover how many of them were avid readers—such a lovely habit to be nurturing so young! Their enthusiasm and curiosity added so much energy to the session.
Once introductions were complete, we dived into knotting. A few more kids joined us as we worked, and the room quickly filled with vibrant, creative energy. We took a short break for cake cutting and snacks, then resumed knotting with renewed excitement.
As the party drew to a close, we gathered for a group picture to capture the joy of the day. One by one, the kids began to leave, each proudly carrying their handcrafted macramé charm. It was heartening to hear both Pallavi and Trisha’s sister appreciate the patience I brought to the session.
Once everything was wrapped up, I sat down with Pallavi to enjoy a plate of delicious homemade pav bhaji—a perfect ending to a wonderful time. I’m incredibly grateful to Pallavi for giving me this opportunity and for helping spark what would become a beautiful new chapter in Knot Square's journey.
